I don't know how far you are into the book/movie, but there are some violent events in the whole story. I think he's having doubts on if he made the right choices. You'll just have to wait & see for yourself!
Ponyboy thought that it was important for everyone to read about his experiences as a Greaser, because he wanted to show people how it felt to be him. He also wanted to show people that discrimination of wealth isn't right. It doesn't matter how rich or poor you are but it matters more about who you as a person are.
