Why was fur trade important to Canadian history?

The canoe was used for travel purposes. The canoe made it easier to go up and down rivers and lakes with-out having the problem of walking and being tired. If the used wagons to move on land, there would still be rough terrain to get past.

That it supplied a product that was in demand within and outside of the Netherlands is the main reason why the fur trade was important to the Dutch in seventeenth century colonial North America. The Netherlands and other European countries had a need for furs for outer wear and for household use as fixtures for beds, walls and windows. In terms of the newly discovered Americas, the Dutch wanted control over the lucrative fur trade. For the same reasons, they wanted control over the lucrative spice trade in Indonesia. That's why Dutch explorers, navigators and settlers started up colonies in colonial America and in southeast Asia.
