Conflicts over the fur trade in New France, particularly with Indigenous peoples and rival European powers, led to a shift in governance as the colony increasingly relied on military support and alliances. The need to protect lucrative fur trade routes prompted the French crown to assert more direct control over the colony, enhancing the role of the governor and military leaders. Additionally, these conflicts necessitated greater cooperation with Indigenous groups, reshaping colonial policies and diplomacy. They also were not interested in settlers because they thought it would affect their fur trade. This, along with the natives, and Catholocism, resulted in displaced people.
