Economy of size, and luxury.

A peculiarity in shipping is that when a ship is made bigger, its carrying capacity increase more than the cost of operating the ship. So for hauling freight, bigger is just about always better - as long as you can still get in and out of ports OK.

For human passengers, there is also the luxury and novelty angle. A bigger ship will move more calmly in the sea, and can offer better living conditions on board. Bigger cabins, bigger restaurants, promenade decks and things like that.

TheTitanic was so large in size, so it would attract costumers and to fit everyone and everything on it. (State rooms, restaurants, lounges, swimming pool, gymnasium, grand staircases, life boats, chairs, beds, silver ware, crew and passengers.
