The Commanding Officer of the Titanic was one Captain Edward Smith. Captain Lord was skipper of another ship which may or may not have been involved in a rescue effort. Then again Walter Lord was the author of the book ( A night to Remember,) about the Titanic disaster. I seem to recall Captain Lord commanded the S.S. Californian. It seems members of his crew saw distress flares fired by the Titanic- but assumed it was some kind of celebration- after all it was the Maiden Voyage of the ship- Maybe the radio operator did not attempt to make radio contact.. thick books are written on all aspects of this Titanic tragedy at sea!

With hindsight things could have been done differently of cource, but at the time everyone did what he thought best.

∙ 6y agoThe captain was not the reason for Titanic sinking. In fact, he ordered a more southerly course to lessen the chance of impact with ice.
