CBS won't outright say it but despite the fact that this show had higher ratings than several shows on other networks that got 're-signed' the average age viewership of The Unit was supposedly "55". A number that CBS does not want to be affliated with anymore, and a number that also supposedly advertisers steer clear of. Thus the cancelation of the Unit.. Ironically enough the show has been bought by several markets to be shown in syndication (Re-Runs) but as of now there seems to be little to no hope of The Unit making a return.
CBS did not own the rights to the show and Fox did. They decided to pick up Medium from NBC, which is produced by Paramount, a studio they own. They already had Medum in syndication, so the logical reasoning would be to pick that show up instead.By being already in syndication the show was cheaper to produce.
