Titanic was going from Southampton to New York. And it was actually a regular trip to move from a place to place. Middle class go on the titanic because: they wanted to be in the inauguration trip, they wanted to go to New York, they loved ships, they weren't able to afford a better class ticket, or just because they didn't want to expend that amount of money that the first class ticket costed.
And taking this question to nowadays trips: for example, some people go in turist class in a plane, some in first. And that happens because of the reasons above.
They didn't. The poor people didn't know where to go.
To find better life.
For a better quality of life.
To try and start a new life in America.
Because they need to travel too.

I think you are referring to the "Titanic".
Many immigrants sailed Titanic with little more than the clothes on their backs but after many husbands and fathers perished, many widows and orphans were rendered incomeless with little else.
Poland was not part of the Titanic's route. It sailed the Atlantic only. The only way to reach Poland would be through the Baltic, which is way off course for the Titanic. If the family was in the UK in 1912 they may have had tickets, a lot of immigrants had tickets. However, if your great grandfather is younger than 104, he is teasing you. The Titanic went down 100 years ago.
The immigrants were heading to the US on Titanic which was destined for New York City.

There were many ships that brought Irish immigrants to the USA. The most well-known was the Titanic. Third Class passengers were on the lower decks and did not have anywhere near the luxurious amenities that the First Class passengers had. After the Titanic sank some steerage passengers were rescued, along with other passengers, and eventually made it to the USA, but many more died.
1st and 2nd class people traveled to Southampton, Cherbourg and Queenstown by train. 3rd class usually traveled from steerage ships. 1st and 2nd class traveled in limousines from Southampton, while 3rd class traveled on steerage trains. Depends how the passengers boarded Titanic, and what class they were in. Many immigrants were boarding Titanic for America. Most were not lucky enough to make the journey.
When boarding Titanic, the First-Class passengers were likely greeted by Purser Hugh McElroy.
