The Socs were more of a disgrace to society because they had a good home life but they chose to waste it and cause trouble. They focus their energies on the greasers and don't feel many feelings.

The reasons the various boys gave for fighting was to protect themselves from Socs and the Socs are considered dirty and hateful to the society.

The main conflict in "The Outsiders" is the clash between two levels of society. There are the "greasers" who are poor and struggle to make a living and the "Socs" who are rich and really don't have to struggle financially.
