Legendaries are usually obtained from "events" on the website. Every time a new month begins, a new notice about events are posted in the site's header. If you follow the directions posted in tat notice, then you are eligible to receive on of the Legendary Pokemon. There aren't any guarantees on whether or not you'll win; it's all done at random. Legendaries can also be obtained from "Summoning Items" that can be found at random around the site, or bought from the shop's back room. These Summoning Items place a Legendary Pokemon egg in the Shelter. For the first 5 minutes, only you can see or obtain it. After that, anyone can take it. The final way is simply finding an egg at random in the Shelter. Someone else may have Summoned it, or someone may have abandoned it.

If you have Pokemon heartgold, you cannot get groundon unless you trade with someone who caught a groundon on soul silver. PS- It has to be from the embedded tower, any migrated groundon will not work.

In Pokemon black/white you must have all the badges and catch tornadus/thundurus and get someone to trade the other legendary( ex. if you have white, get someone to trade for a tornadus). Than goto the shrine with both the legendary pokemon in your backpack and landorus will come out of the sky. Save then fight. Source: me got him a long time ago.
