They French Foreign Legion do not concern themselves with your legal status, except that it gives an accepted applicant legal status here.

As far as I know, you have to be in perfect health to join the French foreign legion. There is a thorough medical check during the selection process.

The official age requirement to join the French Foreign Legion is 17 1/2 (with parental consent) - 40.
You may not be able to join the official ranks of the French military, but you could possibly join the French Foreign legion. It's primarily made up of foreign nationals who want to serve in the military for (in this case) France. As far as I know, it's the only one of it's kind in the world.
