1998 jeep Cherokee Laredo 4 L it will turn over but not start when turning over there is a knocking noise like a piston is hitting something recently replaced timing chain and gears What is wrong?

You may have gotten the valve timing wrong. If a valve is open when the piston is at TDC it may hit it, doing considerable damage.
