I just had this happen to my 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited. I turned out to need to replace the wire from the driver door into the car. Additional Info: This is a common problem for jeeps. As the driver's door is the most frequently used, the wires in the door harness have a tendency to kink or break. The same thing happened to my 95 GC Laredo.
I am actually looking to fix that same exact problem on mine. Mine happened after the alarm went off when I unlocked the doors on the fab. I heard through the grapevine that their is either a short somewhere from the lights to the hub, or one of the door switches, that tell the car the door is shut, isn't recognizing closure. If I get mine figured out, Will get back. Otherwise good luck and if you figure it out post it on here.
We had the same problem several years ago. On ours, the plate on the driver's door that holds the door shut was broken, however, the door still functioned. The lights would stay on, and the alarm would go off. What I ended up doing was finding the fuse for the lights and the alarm and unplugging it. I also made a new plate to go in the driver's door where it latches, and coincidentally, the switch for the dome lights push on that plate to turn the lights off. Best wishes and good luck!
