If you lay down behind the machine and look up at the back of the engine just above the skid plate you will see where the reverse lock out sensor wire plugs in and you will likely see the wire hanging. plug it in and ride. my guess is they get knocked off by sticks rubbing the skid pan.

Also the type of ground you are on. Road = faster. Hard dirt= not as fast. Real loose dirt= not that fast 2002 Honda rancher 350 es goes 65 at top speed on pavement.
