98 Jeep Gr Cherokee used to jiggle gear shift to get back up lights to work n0w they do not work at all why?

You need to adjust your neutral safety/back up light switch, it is located on the passenger side tranny just behind the bell housing. Loosen the 12mm bolt at the top and rotate the switch until the light comes on ( engine off, key on and wheels blocked ), if no luck take it off and clean the inside of the switch and try again. Set so it will start in park too.
