Advantages: You can control the volume, making it as soft or loud as you want. It uses much lighter strings than an accoustic, so it's actually easier to play. Disadvantages: Requires an amp. Which means you have to bring an amp with you, and you can only play where there's electricity. You can't go off hiking in the woods and bring an Electric Guitar with you nearly as easily as you can with an accoustic. Doesn't have as warm and rich a tone as an accoustic. Generally not as suitable for, say, finger picking.
