Seeing it's a 2000 model, i'd assume it has a electronic speedo. So perhaps a wire was knocked loose while changing the battery. If you can reference a repair book, you can probably find the connectors on the tranny for the speedo, so you can check them. Also, it might help if you can check the engine codes. If the computer isn't getting a signal from the speedo (ie loose wire) it should alert you. As it probably controls shift points, and other engine conditions. I had the same problem with my (RPM and Speedometer) i took the cables of for 2 to 3 mins. And thy are working to this day. GOOD LUCK
i figured it out if any body else has this problem its a size 12 i figured it out if any body else has this problem its a size 12
No, the XJ Cherokee does not have the same heater box as a WJ Grand Cherokee.
try the fuse box under the hood next to the battery if any of those are blown then that might be your problem
never mind morons. I found out what the problem was you idiots.
My 01 Grand Cherokee had this problem. Sometimes you turn the key and it starts up just fine. Other times you have to turn the key several attempts before anything happens. Sometimes I have to get it jump-started. The extra power from a second battery will overpower the dead spot and it will start right up.
The fact that you drive a Jeep Cherokee has nothing to do with your speedometer problem. The fact that you have a broken speedometer cable or sensor has everything to do with your problem. It is just about worn out. Soon it will stop working. You need to replace it. It can not be fixed.
Having the speedometer jump and the engine stall in the 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo could be a problem with the idle and the transmission. The transmission slipping can cause the speedometer to jump.
I don't remember the suspension changing so it should fit. The only problem you need to worry about is if it is the same ratio you already have, if not your speedometer will be off.
It sounds like a problem with the electrical system. I would check the belts, alternator, and battery. If none of those were the problem, I would take it to the dealer for repair.
no ? that shouldn't be the problem im a mechanic never came across a problem like that
I found the best way to correct this issue is to, using the key lock and unlock the door a few times this has aways fix the problem for me.
Loose wiring behind the dash.. Pull the cluster and check the wiring or check with the dealer they know about this problem and they may have issued a recall. Hope this helps
If the clock keeps resetting in a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, the problem is probably with the battery. It is quite possible that the battery is going dead after the vehicle is parked, leaving just enough life in it to restart the car. It can also be an alternator problem causing the battery to be drained.
i am having the same problem and i have replaced the battery and no luck now i am blowning the battery fuse and have a short somewhere
You need a new battery. The same exact problem just happened to me in my 2002 jeep grand cherokee. The computer in the vehicle wont let it run unless it is getting a high amount of voltage from the battery. When you replace the battery, the problem should be fixed.
There is no fuse just for the speedometer. If the speedometer is not working, you may have a problem in the dash gauges cluster, or a vehicle speed sensor problem.
if you are trying to change it while it is running it always needs an earth for the ecu otherwise there should not be any reason connected with the battery to cause idle problem
