The Bandit Brothers were a group based in Lexington Kentucky, led by a deejay for WVLK-FM, Karl Shannon. They wrote a song to answer the Forrester Sister's song "Men," called "Women." That's where the name the Bandit "Brothers" came from. Karl recorded the song with a local band, The Bandit Band, in the basement of a house and sent it to a bunch of his radio friends across the country. It recieved airplay on over 50 radio stations and had no label! Seeing the "action" the song "Women" was getting nationwide, Mike Borchetta with Curb Records, signed Karl to a contract. The same time he signed Tim McGraw and Hal Ketchum. They released it nationally in both 45 rpm version & cassette single. It peaked at number 58 on the Billboard chart, but recieved lots of attention. The Bandit Brothers even did a few shows with the Forrester Sisters, were on Nashville Now with Ralph Emery, and they were interviewed by Crook & Chase for the Nashville Network. Posters were made for jukeboxes across the country to track the number of plays each song, "Men" by the Forrester Sisters and "Women" by the Bandit Brothers, recieved. The single sold in access of 50,000 copies nationwide. As far as we know, Karl Shannon is STILL a member of the Curb Records Family. Karl Shannon is still on the radio, doing the morning show at WBUL-FM in Lexington, and can be reached at www.myspace.com/karlshannon
