Ask your doctor for an alternative like Wellbutrin. == I think I could have quit smoking with Chantix. I took it for a week and was down to about four cigarettes a day within two days. I wasn't a heavy smoker anyway but it was great to not have the desire or craving. During this time, I was becoming really depressed. After about five days, I lost the medicine. I found it a week later. I started taking it again Monday morning. Today is Wednesday and after struggling with sleep last night, I woke up this morning trying to find a reason to get out of bed. I'm severely depressed and have struggled today with thoughts of suicide. In the early 90's, I was diagnosed as a major depressant. I have not had any episodes since 1999. I'm not taking other meds so I have to believe this medicine has effected my chemistry. I'd rather have the cigarette habit. I have a friend who took Chantix. It worked for her and she's smoke free, three months. I would recommend this to someone who has never had a chemical embalance. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend taking the risk. Needless to say, if you've ever suffered from depression or had sucideal ideation, you should discuss it carefully with your doctor!
