That depends on how you have your dobro tuned - if you're using a standard tuning, then the chords are the same as you would use for the guitar. If you're using any of the open tunings, open D, open E, open G, open A, among others, the chords are different configurations. Plus, when playing lead, you're generally using a "slide".

C major chord is compose of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th notes of the scale (C, E, & G) when played in the open position on a guitar the C & E notes repeat.

yes. you just have more options on electrics, hammer ons sound better, you've got tremolo, power chords, etc.

It's important to learn because chords are the backbone of playing guitar, and all guitar chord fingerings are related to the 5 chords referenced in the CAGED method. Additionally, the 5 main scale fingerings are based from these same chords. Learning the barre chords that come from CAGED chords, along with their major scales and/or pentatonic scales allows the guitar student to play melodies and chords all the way up the neck, in any key.
