Check for a vacuum leak around the throtle body and intake manifold.
Check to see if your electric radiator fan is working. With the engine running, turn on your a/c, the electric fan should start up. If it does not, when the engine gets hot during idle, the fan must start up or the engine overheats. You will need to replace the fan.
If the check engine line is flashing then that means there is a real problem and you should have it looked at, But if the light is on and NOT flashing the it is most likely a problem with the emmisions system and most likely an oxygen sensor.
Take a vacuum hose off at the intake manifold and put a vacuum gauge on the port, then read the vacuum with the engine running.
Well if your jeep is overheating running the air conditioner can kick on the fan that cools the engine; (you want to check this) However, if the fan does not kick on then yes it can over heat the engine. If your engine is over heating, then the best thing to do is pull over and let it cool down; (you can destroy the whole engine for some that relatively costs little to fix) However, you can reduce the heat in the engine by turning the heat on your a/c control all the way hot and all the way high which can buy you some more time to get your car to a safe place to pull over or even home. WATCH YOUR TEMPERATURE GAGE. Hope this helps.

check your gauges first is it running hot ? is the oil pressure ok ? if the engine seems to be running fine then it could be a bad ground theres alot of things that could cause this but those are the easyest to determine
Smaller tires should not cause the check engine light to come on. Smaller tires will cause the speedometer to be off.
Oxygen Sensor. Or the Knock Sensor. Or you could check the plugs for faults.
Check engine light on?? Not running on all cylinders?
No, but it could cause the check engine light to illuminate.
Check your vacuum lines this usually the cause for a surge in engine speed when idling or running.
Check the engine RPM. If the engine is running too fast when you put it into drive, it will cause the vehicle to jump.
It could be fuel pump, fuel filter or out of fuel. To be certain, you can always use a code scanner to see if there are any stored codes.
There are pages and pages of things that can cause a check engine light. You need to have it checked with a scantool. Then the code can be diagnosed and repaired.
