In a pinch, yes. Make sure it's plain though, nothing with fragrance or other additives. If the slides are being manually used during any performance then it might not be wise to use vaseline as this can make the slide (normally of the 3rd valve) a little cumbersome try a light oiling with valve oil (this is oil specific for the brass family valves)
