∙ 14y agoThe camp administration released Corrie ten Boom in late December 1944. Along with other released prisoners, she traveled by train to Berlin, where she arrived on January 1, 1945. From Berlin, ten Boom journeyed across Germany by train until she reached the Netherlands, where she reunited with surviving members of her family.
After the war, ten Boom advocated reconciliation as a means for overcoming the psychological scars left by the Nazi occupation. She later traveled the world as an evangelist, motivational speaker, and social critic, referring to her experiences in Ravensbrueck as she offered solace to prisoners and protested the Vietnam War.

∙ 11y agoAt Ravens bruck, things were bad. When she first arrived she had to cut off all of her hair due to a lice infestation. There were fleas in Barracks 28 where she was currently staying. These fleas also turned out to be a blessing because now she could hold bible stuidies with her sister Betsie without being caught by the guards. Betise began to grow weak and then finally died and Corrie got a release form three days later, but had to stay in the hospital because she could not pass the health inspection due to her swollen legs. 10 days later she was realeased.

After her release Corrie ten Boom began a one-woman crusade, visiting people and telling about her faith. She ultimately returned to Germany where a startling, yet moving experience occurred. She recounts this experience near the end of her book.

Who was Corrie Ten Boom?
Corrie ten Boom was a Christian watchmaker who lived in Holland during the Holocaust. She was unmarried and living at home with her father and sister until her arrest in 1944. In 1942, 2 years after the Germans invaded Holland, she began housing Jews in her small home, which was nicknamed The Beje. Shortly after, a secret room was put into their house, at the highest point to allow the longest time for Jews to hide if a threat were to enter the house. As aforementioned, Corrie, her sisters Betsie and Nollie, her brother Willem, nephew Peter, and father Casper were all arrested and imprisoned in a camp named Scheveningen, where her father died 10 days later. Her brother and nephew were released, and soon after, Nollie as well. Betsie and Corrie remained, and were later sent to Vught (both camps in the Netherlands), and finally to Ravensbrück. The ten Boom sisters spent most of 1944 there. In the later part of the year, Betsie told Corrie that they would both be released by the new year. She turned out to be correct. Betsie died peacefully in the hospital, and Corrie was released on New Year's Eve. Corrie later discovered that her release was an error- and all the women her age were went to the gas chambers the next week. After her release from prison, Corrie opened a home to help those had been imprisoned in concentration camps recover. After a while, Corrie realized that she needed to share her story. She traveled all around Europe and to the United States. At one event, she met a formerly brutal Nazi guard who had been stationed at Ravensbrück while Corrie was there. After she shared her message, he approached her and asked her forgiveness. She forgave him. I think the Corrie ten Boom was an incredible woman of great strength, one you can certainly look up to. After they were caught and sent to the concentration camp, she and her sister tried to help the other women in the camp by singing, etc. After Corrie was set free, she returned to her helping ways and was able to forgive the people who imprisoned her and her sister. She then spoke world wide about her experiences and wrote her book. For her, these were all wise decisions and were the wise way to live in this world of heartache and pain.
