Yes. In 1992, an article was written in the British Medical Journal, speculating that Mozart had Tourette Syndrome. The truth is we will probably never know whether he had Tourette Syndrome. What we do know is that he wrote letters to his cousin Maria that contained many obscene words, especially words having to do with bodily functions. It has also been documented that he was hyperactive, suffered from mood swings, had tics, and loved made-up words.
The straight answer to that is NO. Mozart was a child prodigy. He was already playing the harpsicord and piano at three, he could play violin at four years old. He wrote his first piece of music at barely turning five years old. And he started travelling and performing in front of Royal Courts well before 10 years old.
Some more interesting facts:
*Mozart had an incredible auditory-photographic memory - he could write or play whole piece after hearing it only once...and because of this, he almost got into trouble.
*He had a playful, sensitive and outgoing personality - and loved a good joke every now and then.
*Startlingly, Mozart liked scatological (toilet) humour - but wasn't allowed to show this side in public.
*He couldn't keep his money organised well, so he was always relying on his wife, Constanze, or his dad Leopold to help him sort it out.
*Mozart was very fond of teaching children, like his dad - and many children in the 18th Century loved and idolised him.
*He also loved his elegant clothes - so he overspent his budget.
*His music can make us smarter (supposedly!)
