The big difference: One has frets and the other doesn't!
Other differences:
1) fretted bass is easier to play in tune
2) fretless bass gets a smoother sound, and glissandos are also smoother
3) It doesn't matter what strings you use on fretted, but on fretless "round wound" strings will chew up your fingerboard
4) The type of wood you choose for the fingerboard on your fretless will change the tone, but won't make a difference on your fretted bass

most guitars, if not all, do come stringed. this is because there is a big difference between the tension in the neck and body when ther isn't strings and when there is. if you have a guitar with strings, and take all the strings off, it can mess up the truss rod in the neck.

John Cale used a fretless guitar on the 1965 album Stainless Gamelan - a very early recording of fretless guitar.Frank Zappa used fretless guitars on a few albums in the early and mid 1970s.
A musician would choose to use a fretless bass for sounds without frets. They would use fretless bass to create a different sound from regular guitars.

The main difference between acoustic and acoustic electric guitars is that acoustic electric guitars have a pickup installed in them so that they can be played with an amplifier. Also, they can be used to play many genres of music, while acoustic has mostly low tones.
I don't know the difference exactly but my guess is that one is more accurate or produces a more exact sound due to the precision in the title but my main subject is electric guitars, not bass however, bass includes acoustic bass, electric bass (standard bass), fretless bass, any other bass. Hope it helps ;-P
