Yes and no. This actually became quite a controversy back in the late 1980s. A German dance-music duo called Milli Vanilli had several huge hit songs and won a Grammy. But then, in the early 1990s, it was revealed that neither Rob Pilatus nor Fab Morvan had sung any of their hits. They had simply stood on stage and lip-synched to the voices of other singers, who received no credit for their work. Rob and Fab had been hired by producer Frank Farian because they were handsome male models who could dance. But when the truth came out that they could not sing, their Grammy was taken from them, and they became the object of jokes on late night TV shows.
The duo tried to redeem themselves by releasing some records where they actually did sing, but they never were able to return to the popularity they had as "Milli Vanilli." Ultimately, Rob turned to drugs and died young, while Fab became a radio disc jockey and still did some performing, mostly as a background singer or a session performer, and occasionally as a solo artist. But he has not been able to have any hit songs, and there is little evidence he will become famous a second time.
