It is part of the string family because it is a stringed instrument. Old stringed instruments like the lute evolved into western/acoustic guitars. The electric was then born and is basically (forgive me for saying it so un-musicially) an acoustic guitar on steroids :D ...I don't really know what your question actually means? It is in the stringed family because it is a stringed instrument... It seems simple but I feel that that answer isn't quite what you're looking for? :/
Well if you want to know string instruments that have 4 strings 2 of them are the guitar (6 strings) and the mandolin (8 strings).
Nicoló Amati was Antonio Stradivari's teacher
Piano is from the Percussion Family. Other instruments in that family are:oCelesta oHarp oTimpani oSnare oSymbols oGlockenspiel The Percussion Family is more international than any other section in the orchestra. Just look at the variety of instruments! With most instruments in the Percussion Family people don't know who invented them or when. In ancient drawings it shows a timpani or African drums being played. But still, no one really knows.

It is a standard member of the string section of the symphony orchestra and smaller string ensembles in Western classical music. 3216529335 txt mee (:The double bass or contrabass is the instrument in the modern day orchestra that has the rythems and the 'bass line' of the song. No one discovered the constellatons. They have always been there, and they were described by ancients. The Greeks spoke of it, and even the Australian Aboriginals knew the star group, but perhaps not in the shape we know as Lyra. They saw a bird there instead of a stringed instrument.
