Cello most commonly uses the bass clef, but it also sometimes requires knowledge of the tenor and treble clefs. So, no. It's best to learn all of the clefs anyway because they aren't difficult and are easy to remember.

Yes, but the bass clef (F clef) is more common. The cello also occasionally uses the treble clef (G clef).

It can actually be written in both. That's why it is recommended that cellists learn both, but bass clef is used about 98 - 99% of the time. (P.S.: It's spelled bass clef, aka F-clef).

What intrument in the orchestra uses the tenor c clef?

Several instruments make use of both bass and tenor clefs. The most common ones I can think of presently are the cello and the bassoon. Much of the time, music is written in bass clef, but can change when the passage to be played moves up to a higher register where tenor clef would be appropriate.

In a piece of music what two clefs are the main ones for the cello?

1. The bass clef - it's also called the F Clef because the second to top line on the stave is an F 2. The Tenor clef - one variation of the C clef. The second to top line is a Middle C. The tenor clef is between the bass clef and the alto clef, which is what a viola plays

Tenor C Clef?

Yes, tenor clef is a C clef, in that it indicates the position of middle C, which in this case is on the 4th line from the bottom.

Are there any C clefs besides the alto clef and the tenor clef?

It's a movable clef that can theoretically be positioned anywhere, but alto and tenor clefs are the two primary uses of it.

What clef does a cello play?

Music for 'cello is usually written in the bass, or F, cleff. However, as the violoncello has a very wide range, from very low to very high, music is sometimes written in the tenor cleff (a C cleff which shows where middle C is) or in treble cleff. Writting in these cleffs obviates the use of hard-to-read ledger lines above the staff.

What key does a flute play in?

The piano uses both the Treble clef (for higher pitches) and the Bass clef (for lower pitches). It plays in the key of C. Sometimes it is misinterpreted that the Treble clef is for the rigth hand and the Bass clef if for the left hand. This isn't true. Both hands can use the Treble clef or Bass clef, or even the right hand can use the Bass clef and the left hand can use the Treble clef.

What is the difference between alto and tenor clefs?

The tenor clef is one note higher than the alto clef! Actually, no, it isn't. This is a common confusion, so it's worth trying to sort it out. The two clefs are simply different positions of the C Clef. The purpose of the C Clef is to show which of the five lines of the staff represents middle C. When the clef indicates that middle C is the middle line it is called the Alto Clef. When the clef indicates that middle C is the fourth line (from the bottom) it is called the Tenor Clef. So the clef is named according to its position on the staff, but in each case it indicates the same note. C clefs are preferred in classical notation for instumental ranges that hover around middle C. This avoids incessant interchanges between Treble and Bass Clefs, or the alternative of writing notes an octave too high or low. The Tenor clef covers a slightly lower middle range, and is preferred for cellos, trombones, bassoons and sometimes other bass instruments when they are playing high. The Alto clef is ideal for the viola, and parts written for the alto trombone also use it. Other positions of the C-clef are now obsolete. These were: on the first (bottom) line (the Soprano Clef) and on the second line (the Mezzo Soprano Clef).

Which of the following clefs is used to read music by middle range instruments such as the viola?

Music for the viola is written in alto clef, where middle C is the middle line of the staff. Violists also learn the treble clef, with G on the second line (counting from the bottom) of the staff, to play in higher registers of the instrument.Cellos play in bass clef and also tenor clef. Some of their music can employ the alto or treble clef as well, though this is less common.
