Only a small fraction of Scarlatti's compositions were published during his lifetime; Scarlatti himself seems to have overseen the publication in 1738 of the most famous collection, his 30 Essercizi ("Exercises"). As far as who, the answer is unknown, but the first horns were used for hunting. Horns were not used musically until the 16th century for operas. Modifications were made to the bell in the 17th century and moveable slides were added in 1753 to allow for more ease while playing by Hampel, a German musician.
Do you want twenty different instruments, or twenty different families? You say "types", so perhaps you mean the latter. For example, do all single reed and double reed woodwind instruments count as two types? Do slide trombones and valve trombones count as one or two instruments? Furthermore, are they one type or two types? I will give you a list of standard instruments. I will probably write more than twenty, and you can pick out the twenty you will accept ; ). violin viola cello double bass C trumpet Bb trumpet piccolo trumpet trombone valve trombone bass trombone tuba sousaphone baritone horn F french horn Eb french horn double french horn alto horn mellophone natural horn post horn sax horn Wagner tuba soprano saxophone alto saxophone tenor saxophone baritone saxophone bass saxophone contrabass saxophone Bb soprano clarinet alto clarinet bass clarinet contra alto clarinet contra bass clarinet piccolo flute alto flute bass flute contrabass flute double contrabass flute hyperbass flute contraforte bassoon tenoroon bassoon semi contrabassoon contra bassoone piccolo oboe oboe d'amore cor anglais oboe da caccia bass oboe sarrusophone contrabass sarrusophone English horn I was going to keep going but I got tired...lol here ya go...
