I remember it, and it was from an old cassette my mom got at church. She sang it to us at bedtime, and now I sing it to my daughter. The words may have morphed over time, and I don't know the authors name, but my family uses these lyrics:

"Will you be a poet? A singer of songs?

Sweet little baby Mama rocks in her arms.

You're someone becoming somebody new,

ad my eyes delight in the changes in you.

you're someone becoming, and some day you'll see

the wonderful someone you are growing to be"

Actually, after Googling various pieces of the song, I found it. It is by Pam Mark Hall, and the album was called "Goodnight, Sleep Tight" (1982). She has a Facebook.
