No, the Dimarzio Super Distortion is a passive pickups, which means it does not need batteries. Active pickups, such as EMGs and Seymour Duncan Blackouts do require batteries. Passive pickups get all their sound from the magnets and the coil windings. Active pickups get their sound from that as well but they have a preamp ( a set eq ) which requires power from a battery.

In Utero's tone was achieved by the careful placement of microphones around the room, to give it a great reverb effect. Kurt used his Fender Jaguar with a Dimarzio Super Dimarzio pickup into a 135-watt Fender Twin Reverb. His effects were Boss DS-2 distortion and Electro-Harmonix Polychorus (used for Radio Friendly Unit Shifter and Scentless Apprentice).
It really depends on what sound you are looking for. EMG Active pickups are great for metal but lack tone. On the other hand try perhaps Di Marzio Super Distortion. It's got great sound for Classic rock & metal with plenty of tone floating around. Or Seymore Duncan Distortion is a good pickup in a Basswood body like your ibanez. Good luck...
I like Bare Knuckle War Pig ceramics, Seymour Duncan Blackouts and the odd EMG like the passive HZs that I had on my LTD M200 (super strat) but keep in mind the type of wood your guitars pickups made out of will make or break the sound of the pickup, say if you put a evolution (dimarzio) pickup inside a Dean ML thats all mahogany it wont be what its supposed to sound like. the best piece of advice i can give you is either see what your favorite guitarist is using but avoid signature pickups or google "whats the best pickup for a alder bodied guitar metal".
bi-switch as in coiltaps. You can put them on any guitar with pickups that have 4 wires. Which is Dimarzio , Seymour Duncan , Lundgren , Bare Knuckle ...ect pickups. To do this you need a coiltapping potentiometer or a super switch if its say two humbuckers. additional information: if you're not sure we're on the same page , coiltaps split the coils of a humbucker and make it sound like a single coil.

Fender Custom Telecaster HH FMT, with Dimarzio super distortion pickups. The all black models are kind of rare. Hers is customized, just a volume knob, no tone control. She probably favors this instrument for it's very light weight and slim neck. The super distortion pickups are loud and rude!

Using a fifth wheel, the F250 Super Duty Ford pickup truck can pull up to 16,800 pounds.
