Who brought carnival to Trinidad and Tobago?

Christopher Columbus is the first known European to reach Trinidad, on July 31, 1498. He saw nearby Tobago, but didn't touch land there. Carnival in Tobago and Trinidad is a blend of two points of origin: the festival heritage from West African countries, and the two days of Christian celebrations before Ash Wednesday and the dietary prohibitions of Lent. The former was brought by enslaved Africans, the latter by European settlers, in the 18th century. So Europe contributed the religious theme of two meatful days, in preparation for 40 meatless; and the social themes of costume dress, masks, and refined socializing. And West Africa contributed the boisterous, colorful, exuberant, joyous dancing, music-playkng, and singing in the streets.

Are women over 45 finished Not you?

I'm glad to hear you said in your question 'not you' because I'm 65 years old and a whirling dervish and very active in business, volunteering and socializing. I am blessed with good health (thus far.) No women's lives are NOT over at 45; women's lives are really just beginning at 45 - 50 and of course we all know that from the age of 35 to 40's women can go into perimenopause (they're periods will be spotty) and eventually will go right into menopause where they have no periods. Although there can be mood swings, night sweats and hot flashes, it's still really a state of mind. I went through mine the natural way and it never put me out of stride in my active lifestyle. When I went into full menopause I never looked on it as the end of my life, but the beinning and I make sure family, friends and those in business knew it. I defend this like a grizzly and her cub and poor be the man or woman that tells me I'm finished! My brain cells fire up well just like anyone else's. Women have it all at the age of 45 plus and have great wisdom (if they've been paying attention), freedom to do some of the things they've always wanted to do, but never had the time to do. I am a good artist (drawing/painting, some I sell, most I just pefer to do as a hobby) good writer and am working on a script at the present time, love gardening, fishing, cross-country skiing, being with friends, tapping into other interesting subjects and have a great thirst for knowledge. A woman from 45 and up is like a fine wine! She has hopefully gained maturity, knows her dislikes and likes, is kind, respectful of her mate, friends and family yet if she doesn't receive the same back will stand solid on her own ground and let's certain people know she is not happy with ANYONE (this includes business ... either your own or where you work.) Fear is no longer there and some of the pressure is off. It's a time to reflect on what YOU want at this time and the skies the limit. I have read many articles and asked younger men (in their 30's plus) about older women and most of them really seek out the maturity in older women and are tired of the immaturity of many of the younger women. There are a lot of young men out there that simply don't care to be partying up everytime they turn around (they will go to fit in, but most admit they are unhappy.) They love the self confidence of older women and also the fact older women aren't clingy and have a title attached to them 'What you see is what you get ... take me or leave me because I don't play games!" Young men really do like this attitude because they feel confident and secure in the relationship. I have two girlfriends and one met and married a young man 15 years younger than her and they have been happily married for 17 years. My other girlfriend married a young man 9 years younger than her and they are happily married. I am 4 years older than my husband and we've been married 35 years. Enjoy!
