They brothers sang for years in their church choir (Nick was only 7 when he started). After that, Nick was picked up by Columbia Records. Steve Greenburg (Columbia's CEO at that time) liked what he heard, so he was signed.

Nick released his first single, "Dear God," on November 16th, 2003. It was a big hit on Christian radio stations all over the US. After it's success, Nick began making a follow-up album. On one of the tracks, Nick's brothers were featured. That song was Please Be Mine.

Steve, upon hearing this track, invited in all three of them to sing it for him. When he heard it, he was completely sold, and signed all three of them as an act.

The Jonas brothers (the originally deliberated over the name, calling it Sons of Jonas) toured with many stars during their rise to fame. Some of these included:

-Aly and AJ

-The Veronicas

-The Cheetah Girls

Ultimately, the Jonas Brothers got very little promotion from Columbia. They didn't want to put anymore money into the project, so the Brother's considered switching labels. One of their songs, "Poor Unfortunate Souls," became very popular on Radio Disney.

This infuriated Steve Greenburg.

And in a fit of anger, he possibly made the business decision that lead to his being fired 2 years later:

He dropped the Jonas Brothers from his label.

They went on to become hugely successful with Disney and Hollywood Records (a subsidiary of Disney). Bing, Bang, Boom, a few world tours later, and they're the household name we know today.
