Is not an even radio exchange. but you may make it fit with some modifications. Anything is possible
that usually means your radio can have a disc changer added to it. a ford compatible disc changer. although, it may be a downgraded version which only shows the features but do not work.

It is possible to put a CD player in a 1997 Ford Escort Wagon LX. The radio models Kenwood KDC-152, Axxera AXD130, and Clarion CZ102 will all work in a 1997 Ford Escort Wagon LX.

Check owner's manual. There is no CD changer fuse it gets power from the radio if the radio is on, there is some other problem with the CD changer.
If the face plate of the original factory radio is Oval, like the 1997 escort, you can get a new radio faceplate that will accept a standard aftermarket radio from crutchfield. Mine cost $49 back in 1997. It even takes the original A/C and rear defroster controls.
In mine...the factory mounted CD player is in the center console.
there is no fuse on the CD changer of any for vehicle, they get the power from the factory radio If the radio displays NO DJ NO CD or BAD DISC that means the CD changer laser is defective and can't read the disc information nothing wrong with the magazine or the Cd's the CD changer needs to be repair or replace any car audio repair or clarion service center can fix it or you can get a rebuild unit from oemautosound
