Hi I have a Hitachi HA-250 and have loved it but recently one of the channels bust and is now completely distorted and horrible to listen to. Any thoughts?

It could be a number of things, but check the 120 ohm resistors (four of them, two per channel) just alongside the heatsink, as well as the four 47 ohm resistors mounted nearby underneath the board (inside little insulating tubes).
I have seen these go very high in value, causing distortion.
