Nikki Sixx was born in San Jose, California. He was the oldest son to his mother and father. His real name is Frank he spent time with his younger brother Rodney who looked up to him. Seven years his junior Frank was often a father figure to his youngest brother Donald "Donny" (later named Sebastian Sixx). Frank lived with his mother's parents after his mother and father split up for a short time back when he was 3 years old. Frank lived with his mother in Hollywood and dated Richard Pryor before getting back together with his father. When he was seven his family settled in New Jersey US where Frank attended schools.

His parents would break up again and his mother married his abusive stepfather and his baby sister would be born. Frank would later leave New Jersey and move back to live with his grandparents in Idaho for a short time.

Nikki Sixx was a juvenile delinquent in his teens and was kicked out of school for selling drugs.
