I had to go to a dealership to get the radio unlocked, also the cause; ( radio locked) was Battery Failure. After I puchased a new battery I found the radio use to be locked.
look in this webpage http://www.autotoys.com/New_Tech/Wire_codes/GM_GMC_GEO_RADIO/gm_gmc_geo_radio.htm
There are a number of things that you can have done wrong. Get a manual on your car from the parts store and it will tell you how it is supposed to work.
S10 serial 416642
In our 96 Blazer S10, it was behind the radio. We had to remove the radio to get to it.

In a 2002 Chevy S10, the radio fuse is located in the fuse box, which is typically found under the dashboard on the driver's side. To access it, you may need to remove the cover of the fuse box. Look for the fuse labeled "RADIO" or "AUDIO" in the diagram on the cover or in the owner's manual to identify the correct fuse. If the radio is not functioning, check this fuse to see if it needs to be replaced.
YES, thats normal.
yes you can remove the stock radio and put in an aftermarket radio in the chevy s10. I have a 1990 s10 pickup. You will have some extra unconnected wired with the aftermarket radio but do worry it will work all the same. the wires are color coded to match each other for the most part except for the speaker wires they may be different but will be labeled on the new unit as to what is what. good luck hope ive been helpfull
