The first thing you should always do if you're having trouble with a drum lick is SLOW IT DOWN. Take it at an excruciatingly slow tempo and then gradually (by 5 bpm at a time) speed it up until it starts to get sloppy. Do that a few times everyday and soon you'll find that your "sloppy" tempo is getting higher and higher!
In regards to fast ride patterns the best technique I've found is the Moeller stroke. I'm sure you can find instructional videos of it online, but basically it allows us to get multiple notes per arm movement. It is similar to throwing a tennis ball top the ground. The arm pulls back, allowing the butt of the sick to point at the cymbal, and then comes down like a whip. Look up videos online, master the technique, and you'll be playing sixteenth note patterns on your ride cymbal in no time!!
