Get a tuner. Play high G. (the first three fingers on your left hand, with the octave key). If the tuner says you are sharp, pull out the mouthpiece a little. if you are flat, push it in. Keep doing it until you get the black line in the middle, and the green light is lighting up on the tuner.
The alto sax is generally not known as "an E flat sax", as a baritone saxophone is also in E flat.
