Buddy Holly died on February 3 1959 on a plane crash. He was on his way back from a gig in Iowa and the weather was stormy. Along with him and his bandmates, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson also died in that plane crash. The song 'American Pie' by Don McLean was written about this. "The Day the Music Died." (we learned this in Mr. Ordini's 4th and 2nd period English class)
He was pissed of at having to go on the Winter Party dance tour. His producers and record companies owed him a lot of money, so he had to relunctantly go on tour to support his budding career and life in New York City with his new wife, Maria Elena. Many performers got sick on the tour, the unheated buses kept breaking down, and for a couple of weeks they had had to wear the same dirty clothes. He was tired of this treatment and wanted clean clothes, so that's why he chartered the plane. He had a good time at the shows performing, but pictures of him from that tour show him very tired and upset. So he probably wasn't too happy with the state of his life, but music made him happy.
