Fleetwood Mac was formed from former members of John Mayall & The Bluebreakers. Mick Fleetwood and Peter Green rehearsed with John McVie and recorded five songs. The fifth was an instrumental called "Fleetwood Mac" based on the rhythm section. Fleetwood and Green intended to form the band with McVie and named the band "Fleetwood Mac", but McVie opted to stay with the Bluesbreakers instead of risking it with a new unknown band. The band made its debut on August 13, 1967 at the Windsor Jazz and Blues Festival using the name Fleetwood Mac even though McVie did not play in that show. Within weeks of the Windsor show, John McVie agreed to the the bassist for the band.
