A:The three temptations in the wilderness are not in Mark's Gospel, but came into the Gospels of Matthew and Luke from the hypothetical 'Q' document. Although using the same source document, the two authors recorded two of the temptations in different sequences. Matthew's Gospel says that the devil first tried to tempt Jesus to turn a stone into bread, then took Jesus up to the pinnacle of the Temple in Jerusalem, and then to a high mountain in order to tempt him. Luke's Gospel says that the devil tried to tempt Jesus to turn a stone into bread, then took Jesus up to a high mountain in order to tempt him, and then to the pinnacle of the Temple in Jerusalem.

Actually, Jesus was tempted during the 40 days in the wilderness, not after. Satan offered Him power, land and riches, all of which Jesus refused. Then Satan wanted Jesus to prove He was the son of God, again, Jesus would have no part of it.
Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness by offering him power, fame, and material wealth in exchange for turning away from God and worshiping him. Jesus resisted these temptations by staying faithful to God's will and teachings.
Jesus was tempted three times by satan in the wilderness.AnswerIn the original account, in Mark's Gospel, there is no suggestion of a number of temptations, simply a narrative that Jesus was tempted by Satan, while being ministered by angels. The hypothetical 'Q' document elaborates on this, with detailed accounts of Satan tempting Jesus three times: to make stones into bread to eat; then taking Jesus up into a mountain and showing him all the kingdoms of the world, to be his to rule if he worships Satan; finally taking him to Jerusalem and sitting him on a pinnacle of the Temple and saying to prove he is the Son of God by jumping down and surviving. Luke's Gospel reflects the additional material in 'Q'. Matthew has the same three temptations by Satan, but reverses the order of the last two.

Context is the answer. The context happened like this: Jesus goes into the desert to fast from food and water for 40 days and nights. Then Satan shows up and starts tempting him. At every turn Jesus replies with a verse from scripture that condemned giving in to Satan's temptations. When Satan tempts Jesus to worship the Devil (himself) Jesus replies, "It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only" Basically Jesus was saying, "I cannot worship you because scripture says man must only worship God." Remember that Jesus was both man and God.
