The Woodstock Festival changed the musical world in a manner as striking as it changed the social mores of the time: the musical muscle performing learned it was profoundly influential with an unstoppable gravitas previously unknown to themselves and their kin, with artists and audience embracing each other within a length and breadth previously beyond the imaginings of either.

N.B.: The Woodstock Festival was held on farmer Max Yasqur's dairy farm, just outside the town of Bethel, New York, U.S.A. Organizers were expecting about 50,000 attendees, but ten times that number showed. The event occured over three days, starting Friday, August 15, 1969.

Woodstock in 1969 was an event to promote music and show the world how empowering togetherness in the light of music can be. The most personal story I can share is about the clown, Wavey Gravy. This is how granola began, here at this show, that endured rain, mud, and hunger.... Wavey went around to the local farmers to gather grains and oats (as I have been told) and volia granola. He help people get fed when they were hungry. He now runs a circus camp in Laytonvill California for Children. The 1994 concert which I was old enough to attend, was then called Mudd Fest when Green Day landed on stage and the mud started slinging. Ha! There was no rain at this amazing event, the mud came from the toilets and some misters randomly placed about the venue, but mostly the toilets.... yes entirely gross. We wore bags on our feet when the facilities were unavoidable, otherwise, peeing in bottles.... it's alot easier than you might think. This event to was to bring people in peace and joy through music and it worked. However commercalised ones who did not attend and would say it was not the same... again, were not there. People on life support showed up just to be in the energy. The drugs could not get you higher than the event itself. Soul love everywhere.

drugs. there was thousands of people there. the hippies produced more trash in three days then it would to pick up in a year! now with there trash they made a peace sign.

they were scarce on food but they got there food and water.jimmi hindrix and the bettles were there.but it rained and they were going to call it off ,but it stoped and woodstalk was on.

Woodstock: Three Days That...

It was Christmas morning and I was 15. "John, what's that still under the tree?" Excitingly I ripped open the perfectly wrapped present. A new view towards music and life had immediately taken action. I had just opened a deceptively big box only to be shocked to see a book. Not just any book though, Woodstock: Three Days That Rocked The World, and it truly did rock my world. It rocked my world in a sense that my eyes were open to artist such as Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Grateful Dead, and many more. Just as my parents had, I began listening to these revolutionary bands religiously. These bands affected not only my iPod, but also my personality. They brought to attention the reality that there really is more music than the Jonas brothers and Fergie Ferg. Why had I never heard of these band before? It didn't matter, I knew them now only from my new book, Woodstock: Three days That Rocked The World. This book was very thick. It had tons of articles, lyrics, pictures, and colors. I thought it was amazing how much "stuff" there was to put into a book representing only three days. These three days were known as Woodstock: a concert which gathered half a million people to share 3 days of peace and love on a dairy farm in Woodstock, New York. Many people substitute "changed" for "rocked" in the famous quote "Three days that rocked (changed) the world." I know Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix "changed" my playlist, but did Woodstock really change the world?

The year was 1969. Vietnam was very real, Richard Nixon secedes Lyndon B. Johnson, and the astronauts of Apollo 11 return safely back to earth from the moon. Amazing feats both technology, and foreign based were rapidly occurring. The French Language is made equal to English in Canada, and the Stonewall Riots in New York City begin the fast paced gay rights movement. All of these events, both troublesome and inspirational, have lead to a "change" in the world for better or worse. These events were destined to happen. Not commercial based. Not organized towards a marketing scheme. No, these events occurred because they had to. As years pass, the world changes. Issues appear which cannot be disregarded. Issues such as a need for technology growth, personal human rights, and foreign affairs. These are issues which cannot be pushed aside. They must be dealt with no matter the outcome. These are the milestones which truly "change" the world.

"Three days of peace and love," who wouldn't want that? A concert with tons of great music, food, drugs (Advil for headaches from the music) , and women. Yes there was the occasional bad weather, but besides that, everything seemed pretty chill. I know if I lived back in 69' I would have definitely tried as hard as possible to make an appearance, and if I had been lucky enough to make it, I'm 100% sure those three days would have "changed" my world, my outlook on life, and maybe even my hairstyle. But I wasn't there. I didn't get to celebrate those three days of peace and love. I have to imagine what it would be like. Imagine, because those three days that supposedly "changed" the world, only "rocked" mine. One concert goer said that Woodstock was "the miracle of a multitude at peace with one another had occurred, and no one who was there will ever forget it," but right before says that, he talks about never even remember the day before. How could something so impacting be so quickly forgotten? One fact about Woodstock many people don't know is that money was greatly involved instead of the pure will of the performers to play in front of the people. Sometimes bands would not even go on stage "without seeing a flatbed full of cash first". I feel like if the concert would have been less beneficial for the bands then the show would have been more symbolic.Yes, Woodstock's follow up book helped me learn classic music earlier, but regardless, I can assure you I would have eventually started listening sooner or later.

After receiving an email back from my mom's friend some key questions were answered. I asked her if she thought the world seemed "changed"after attending Woodstock. She answered vaguely about how she was glad she had gone and that she will never forget it. Unknowingly though, she started rambling about different events and issues in and around Woodstock's time which seemed much more universally impacting. At no point had I ever asked her about other events which she felt revolutionized or affected the world for better or for worse. By her response, she blatantly showed me how small the impact of Woodstock truly was and remains. If those three days from August 16-18 really were that world "changing", then why would she lose track so easily of my question? She had numerous stories and examples of how she felt when the Astronauts arrived home, but all recollection of Woodstock and her time there seemed to be completely out of the picture. She found a way to stray from my original question so naturally as if she had never gone in the first place.

I believe the average human being fails to recognize the real events which shaped the world to what it has become today. People like to find the easy way out of things by just telling themselves, "hey Woodstock dude, that's like the like concert that like completely changed the world mannn. Average humans unfortunately are ignorant and lack the knowledge which contains the truth behind the events that have shaped the earth and everyone living in it today. "We" lack the desire to learn and put forth the effort to register the past even if it does not fancy our taste. Nowadays we pick and choose what we would like to hear. If an idea,issue, or event doesn't go well with a specific philosophy, then forever will it be lost. Woodstock consisted of music and a few Vietnam protestors. Previously recorded music and a few extremist will never be remembered as world "changing". If that was the case then Dave Matthews would be the next Mother Teresa. The groovy, psychedelic-hippie music which was played on that Dairy farm in New york in 69' will forever be remembered, but what about Woodstock?
