The Phantom is unmasked by Christine during a performance after he disguises himself as Piangi (After murdering him).
The Phantom drags Christine down to his lair whilst Madame Giry leads Raoul to its entrance, meanwhile, a mob forms in pursuit of the Phantom.
Christine is forced into the wedding dress in the lair not long before Raoul arrives, the Phantom allows him into the lair and, whilst he speaks with Christine, suspends him with his Punjab lasso, choking him slowly, the Phantom tells Christine that if she marries him and stays with him he will let Raoul live. However, should she choose Raoul he will kill him with the lasso.
The trio in the lair begin to sing (Raoul to Christine, Christine to the Phantom, the Phantom to Christine and himself), at the end of this Christine kisses the Phantom.
He is completely caught off-guard by being shown the affection and love from her that he guiltily releases Raoul and orders the two to escape as the mob closes in.
Raoul and Christine leave as the Phantom sings to the tune of his music box, Christine returns to hand him the wedding ring he gave to her and returns to Raoul.
The two sail from the lair singing to each other and the Phantom sings the final line of the musical ('You alone...').
After this he moves to his throne and throws his Opera cape over himself.
The mob reach the lair and Meg Giry is the first to enter, she discovers the throne and cape and upon pulling the cape away the Phantom is nowhere to be seen - only his mask remains.
Meg picks up the mask and eyes it over, cradling it somewhat as the musical ends.
