there are little things in our eyes ( i forget what they are called) there is a layer of colour ones and a layer of night visoin ones behind. we lack night visoin ones but we have more color ones so we can see colours were as are pets cant because they lack colour ones so they can see in the dark well

That and we see the colors that an object does not absorb, for instance a lemon takes in every single color except for yellow thus we see a lemon as yellow, white doesn't take a single color of the spectrum so we see it as white, while black absorbs every single color of the spectrum so we see it as black.
