My reference books don't show a P1698 error code but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I would recommend taking it to a large autoparts store and asking them to read the code for you. They should be willing to do this for no charge in hopes that they can sell you the corrective part from their store. If they can then please do so that this valuable service will continue to be available to the rest of us who are too cheap to buy our own error reader computer.

∙ 12y agoI have just had the same problem on mine. When cold it would run for about 2/3 seconds then stop dead. The general P1131 code is dealer specific and if you look for it under any other place it will bring up emissions or other problems, but on the Jeep Grand Cherokee I found P1131 is related to the fuel pressure regulator on the common rail. So when I investigated this I found I had a slight diesel leak on the back of the rail that had somehow managed to find its way into the wiring plug on the fuel pressure control valve (on 2.7 CRD) at the back of the fuel rail under the bulk head. I took it apart, cleaned it, fixed the fuel leak and hey presto the management light runs out and it runs perfect. Hope this helps.
