I've found (and between a kid who doesn't close the door behind him and a cat who prefers to devour her prey in the security of her own home I've had PLENTY of chipmunks in the house) that it's pretty simple to get them out by trapping them in a room with an open window or door. Eventually they will smell the fresh air and let themselves out. If you want to speed the process up, you can poke around to try to get them moving but make sure to keep your animals in another room and remain calm or you'll just scare the chipmunk more and it'll hide somewhere you can't get them! Remove as many hiding places as possible from the room and they'll be more likely to find their way out quickly. Not to state the obvious but you shouldn't leave any windows or doors open overnight or you may end up with a few more house guests in the morning. I've found that you don't need to leave any food out for them, the fresh air will be enough to help them find their way.
