One of the best expectorant cough medicines for this that I have found is guaifenesin. It is in many cough preparations over the counter and is made from natural ingredients from the guaiac tree. It is a Native American medicine and is the active ingredient in Robitussin and generic equivalents. It is also an active ingredient in Mucinex.

Is spitting up mucus a sighn of cancer?

As far as I know the answer to your question is NO. It could be a sign of a chest infection or the common cold. If it continues for more than a week or if your mucus starts to turn red ( indicating that there is a trace of blood in the mucus) I would consult your doctor.

That is normal congestion if you have a cold or bad allergies. Dried up mucus is usually white or yellowish or brownish. If you get bright yellow or greenish, you probably have an infection, but dark colors are just dried out mucus.
