by "grease" that person probably meant cork grease. if you don't have any you need to get some now because your Oboe has a chance of getting stuck togethor. you just put it on the corks once or twice a month and it keeps them lubricated. it looks alot like chapstick

You can purchase a special pull from most good music shops through cloth cleaner with a weight on one end which you thread through the bell never the other way round or you get it stuck. There is also a special cloth to polish the wood and another for the metal work.

How does a oboe need to be cared for?

You need to swab your oboe after every time you play it. Also, applying cork grease to the cork keeps them well-greased. You should also take your oboe in to a musical repair shop every once and awhile for a routine checkup.
