How do you make music with musical instruments?

Conducting is something that takes only a few minutes learn. But to be done well, takes lots of practice. To do a basic song, you need to learn four motions with your right hand.

Basic 4 beat song.

1) hand out stretched, drop your hand from your head to your your waist

2) at waist level move your hand to your left

3) move your hand to your right

4) move your hand back to your head level and repeat.

Basic 3 beat song.

1) hand out stretched, drop your hand from your head to your your waist

2) at waist level move your hand to your right

3) move your hand back to your head level and repeat

Again, this is the basic movement. Read 'The Modern Conductor' by Elizabeth Greene. That is a great book.

Much the same as you would conduct any other instrument. You would beat the tempo and queue the player(s) to start and/or end playing. Knowing the instrument would also be of great advantage, that is, knowing its range and its limitations for producing music.

It is a combination of musical talent, technical proficiency on whatever instrument you so desire, and the ability to not ask such dumb questions such as this.
