If you have Vista or XP then there's no need to pay for special software, such as Ghost or even download the free Gparted & burn a live CD for your Windows system.

Simply use the "Disk Management" software that comes with Vista and XP. For Vista go to Control Panel > System and Maintenance > Create & Format Hard Disk Partitions This will start Disk Manager. Select the Maxtor hard drive by right clicking the lower section of the panel in the Maxtor section. Select Shrink Volume from the drop down menu Choose your size and OK Next right click the newly created empty space and select Create Partition, specify the size you want etc and then select Format and OK (NOTE: nothing seems to happen and no popup window tells you formatting has begun, just wait a minute or two and you should see the Format % change to 1% or 2%, do not logout, disconnect Maxtor drive etc until finished.) Your new partition is now ready for business.

Warning: BACKUP EVERYTHING on your OneTouch disk BEFORE you attempt to partition it!!!!

If like me you have a Acer with Vista pre installed and no Vista disk but don't want to waste the other half of your C drive by letting the useless eRecovery software create an image of your C drive on your D drive then I suggest using OO softwares DiskImage that actually allows you to backup to the location YOU want!!! It's often available on PC magazine cover disks free or download the older versions free at http://www.oo-software.com/home/en/download/archive/ or get the latest version at very reasonable prices (US $30) from their Products section I used DiskImage 2 (Special Edition), it worked fine on Vista
